Due to their size and large quantity tires prove to be a very inconvenient waste item to put into landfills. Because of their odd size and 75% void space tires are very inefficient items to store at landfills. Tires can be recycled and reused for a number of things from mats, roofing pads, rubber mulch, to large scale civil engineering projects and commercial flooring. In 2003 almost 81% of scrap tires were reclaimed.
